Special guest announcement for Blueprint Jurien Bay!

Introducing Kim Huston
American economic developer and author based in Bardstown, Kentucky, America.

Are small towns sexy? Absolutely! Just ask Kim, author of Small Town Sexy: the allure of living in small town America and she will enjoy telling you about her love affair with her not-so-big city lifestyle in her hometown of Bardstown.

Kim has gained national and international recognition with her book, which discusses the seductive charm and appeal that so many small towns have today and enjoys convincing anyone who will listen that indeed you can do big business in a small town. She is passionate about small towns and believes Jurien Bay has enormous potential.

“I was reading how the population of Perth is increasing and not everyone wants to live in the city. Some want to slow down, have a better lifestyle, to raise their children in a smaller place and Jurien Bay has so much potential for growth and economic opportunity.”

Her message for the people of Jurien Bay will be simple – be unique – and build on that.

What is "Blueprint Jurien Bay - Unleash the potential"?

The Jurien Bay Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Economic Forum called Blueprint Jurien Bay - Unleash the potential between the 4th and 6th of May 2015 and will fly national and international experts into the town for a major event focusing on the future of the coastal community.

Chairman of the Chamber, Clinton Strugnell said “These few days in May could very much represent a watershed moment for our town and we are keen to invite as many people to participate,” he said.

“We will be making further announcements shortly on our special guests but really the most important people we need to participate are in our town right now. The purpose of the workshop is create a shared vision for the future of our town as a destination for tourists and investors"

Mr Strugnell said the Chamber’s key focus was what can be done to shape Jurien Bay as a key destination in Western Australia by strengthening the number and quality of small town businesses.

“Visitors bring dollars, which are reinvested into businesses which can then grow, adding jobs and bringing new people with new ideas to reinvest in our local economy. It is important to understand that whether we like it or not Jurien Bay is in fierce competition from regional towns across the state and across the nation. As we speak, similar communities in Western Australia are striving to promote their town and think about what they need to do to attract people to visit and invest,” he said.

Mr Strugnell said he was excited to invite everyone in Jurien Bay and throughout the district to participate in the workshop, which will be launched on Monday 4 May and continue through until Wednesday.

“There will be plenty of opportunity for people to participate and have their say – I would urge everyone who cares about the future of Jurien Bay to make attendance an absolute priority.”

Jurien Bay is located two hours north of Perth, on Western Australia's new scenic coastal highway, the Indian Ocean Drive. Jurien Bay is the only town not bypassed by the new highway, which takes 30 minutes off the drive to Geraldton, and is now the major coastal route for holiday makers heading anywhere north in the state be it the Midwest, The Gascoyne, The Pilbara or The Kimberley. While the major industries which have supported the town historically have been cray fishing, tourism and agriculture, Jurien Bay has experienced a boom in development in the years leading up to the completion of Indian Ocean Drive. New suburbs have opened up to the south of the town at Beachridge, plus at Seafront to the north. Several new developments offer acreage blocks at Marine Fields, Jurien Bay Heights, Alta Mare and Hill River. Jurien Bay Marina was completed in 1988 and offers boat lifting and storage. The airfield, only minutes from the town centre, is bitumin with a pilot-operated lighting system. The Shire of Dandaragan has also completed construction of a new circular jetty.

The Chamber of Commerce is excited about new new tourism developments in pre-sale and planning stages for Jurien Bay. These include a 90 room resort planned for Beachridge by Ardross Estates, plus a large resort and commercial development planned for the jetty area in the centre of town. Construction of a new 98 villa retirement village and community centre his well under way.

Tourism activities include sea-lion charters and diving, fishing charters, golf, tennis, bowls, skydiving, bush-walking and wildflower touring, and kayak tours. Jurien Bay's beaches are second to none, and the islands and reefs of the Jurien Bay Marine Park are a haven for a large variety of marine and wildlife. The Jurien Bay Marine Park has been recognised as unique in the world due to the mixture of tropical and temperate species due to the Leeuwin Current. Opportunities for new tourism based businesses are numerous. If you have ever considered a sea-change and running your own tourism business, now is the time and Jurien Bay is the place.

Jurien Bay offers enormous opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors, and is poised on the verge of an exciting period of growth and development. The Chamber welcomes enquiries from potential business developers, and encourages existing Jurien businesses to get behind the Chamber to help us to make our voice heard by local and state government in determining the strategies which will further develop the town.

The Jurien Bay Chamber of Commerce invites you to take a short drive up the beautiful new Indian Ocean Drive for a day trip or longer to see for yourself...
